Kabara Community Development Initiative (KCDI/Kabara) is a non-profit set up in 2016. We are focused on improving lives of people in Northern Nigeria, with special focus on youths and women.
Our objective was borne out of the ideology that a mindset shift is the core requisite for sustainable change within the region.
Our strategy for execution meant that we would employ a two-pronged approach through creating exposure to Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics and Design (STEM-D) and to support the revival of Arts & Cultural livelihoods and projects within the area.
Northern Nigeria is our focus because the region is challenged with population displacement, low literacy levels and restrictive access to secular education. These factors have compounded and continue to limit opportunities available particularly to youths and women, who make up a considerable part of the population and drive the informal economy within the region.
At Kabara we are focused on providing STEM-D education as a means to solving socio-economic challenges and bridging the gap between demand and access to quality and decentralized tech education for all social classes within Northern Nigeria.
Kabara has created an art and design space, to kick start the Northern Art renaissance giving young talented northerners a platform to express creative talent and begin to generate commercial avenues for themselves in a safe environment.
We firmly believe that there is a strong link between technology, entrepreneurship and community growth. Thus, youths and women in Northern Nigeria are able to thrive, by accessing the Kabara platform as the link to opportunities available within the new global network.
